The Noida-based digital payments and technology platform Paytm has just introduced its new Android Mini App Store which will work within its digital payments app. Paytm show this initiative to support Indian Developer which will take their innovative products to the masses. The new app store acts as an Indian alternative to the Google Play Store and the App Store and helps users to use the different app without downloading the app files.
How Android Mini App Store will Work?
Actually, Paytm is hosting links to progressive Web apps (PWAs) which are light apps that can run within a Web browser without requiring any installation. These PWAs do not require any downloads and installation as they run directly on the browser and also give users an app-like experience, which would benefit millions of users to save their limited data and phone memory.
More than 300 app-based service providers such as Decathalon, Ola, Park+, Rapido, Netmeds, 1MG, Domino’s Pizza, FreshMenu, NoBroker have already joined the program. It comes with a developer dashboard for analytics, payments collection along with various marketing tools to engage with the users.
There are various categories like Shopping, Healthcare, Food Ordering, Transport and Travel, News and Content, Utilities and Services, Financial Services, Education, Lifestyle, Astrology, Music and Podcast, Mini Games, Live TV. You can access these apps in the discover section which is showing on the main page of the Paytm app.
The Mini App store has been designed to help small developers and businesses in India. Paytm will also provide developers Paytm wallet, Paytm Payments Bank account, and UPI at zero charges and levies a 2% charge for other instruments like credit cards.
Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder & CEO – Paytm said, “I am proud that we are today launching something that creates an opportunity for every Indian app developer. Paytm Mini App Store empowers our young Indian developers to leverage our reach and payments to build new innovative services. For Paytm users, it will be a seamless experience that doesn’t require any separate download and enables them to use their preferred payment option.”
This app store has been running in beta with select users and witnessed over 12 million visits in the month of September. According to Paytm, Launching the Indian app store is aimed to promote the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ mission.
Last week, Google said all the apps in the Play Store who are selling digital goods had to use its billing system, which allows the tech giant to collect a percentage of in-app purchases as a fee. There are chances more such alternatives might arrive soon, which will be pre-installed on Android devices.
Moreover, Paytm had been removed from the play store by google on 20 Sep 2020 over violation of gambling policies, but the app was restored on the Play Store after a gap of a few hours. This is the latest move of any start-up’s to break Google’s monopoly over the distribution of Android applications.
